SALT LAKE CITY — When you're 14 years old, spending a little time at the arcade sounds like a pretty good day. You can get lost in a game or two, escape from some school work or chores at home. Gannon isn't playing video games to escape that stuff.

"I like to serve people," said Gannon.

In fact, he'd welcome what he calls 'normal kid' problems. "I want to be a free kid," he said. "I want to be like a normal kid where you don't have to ask a case manager if you can hang out with friends."

On Wednesday, Gannon was at the arcade with his case worker. He said he'd been adopted once, giving him the chance to have a family.

Gannon said when he was 2 years old, a family found him. After eight years, however, the family sent him back.

"It made me feel sad in a way, but I was more like 'what am I going to do now?" he said.

Now, Gannon is moving a lot. "I don't like going house to house to house," he said. "A certain place will tell me a certain thing and I'll go and move and move and I just hate it."

On Wednesday's, Gannon took a little time for himself. "(I want to) start over and pretend like nothing ever happened in my past," he said. "(I want to) let things go and just a new life."

He wants a fresh start. "I want people to know I'm actually a great child and I'm helpful a lot," Gannon said.

He has hope that more good days will lie ahead.

"I wish I could have fun like other kids," he said. "Eventually, when I do get adopted, I will be happy and have fun like other kids."
