MAGNA — Police have arrested a man suspected in the shooting death of a Murray woman in a Magna home earlier this month.

Officers booked Todd Elwin Hull, 46, into the Salt Lake County Jail on Friday for investigation of murder in the death of Paige Espinoza, 25, Unified police detective Ken Hansen said.

Investigators say Espinoza was shot and killed in a "drive-by or walk-by" shooting through a basement window of a home in Magna at 8360 W. Mix Ave. Multiple shots were fired into the southeast basement window of the home.

Police said three people were inside the home when shots were fired, but no one else was injured. Espinoza did not live at the home.

Hull, of Midvale, was arrested after being interviewed by detectives who say he "admitted to be the driver of the vehicle involved in the murder," a Salt Lake County Jail report states.

Some of the individuals inside the home, ranging from ages 36 to 45, do have gang ties, police said, but Hansen said the "motive" of the shooting was still under investigation.

Hansen said Hull was already booked in the Summit County Jail on unrelated charges of mail theft from Heber City, and that's where Unified police picked him up Friday.

Hull has an extensive criminal history involving mostly theft, burglary and drug charges.

Last year, he was charged with punching one of his daughters in the eye, then later throwing a cup of coffee in her face and warning her that if she told the police or others about the assault, he would have his friends break into her house, tie her up and rape her, according to charging documents. He pleaded guilty to attempted assault as part of a plea deal and was sentenced to 45 days in jail and 12 months of probation.
