SALT LAKE CITY — With Utah having experienced several major wildfires already this summer, cities throughout the state are cracking down on fireworks and putting in restrictions to prevent more fires from happening.

Cottonwood Heights banned aerial fireworks after multiple fires broke out from Fourth of July firework celebrations. West Jordan also banned aerial fireworks, but then later amended the ban to allow fireworks at two designated locations.

Now, other cities throughout the state are doing their part to prevent fireworks-related fires this celebratory season.

Here is a list of restrictions in some of Utah's cities. For information on cities not included in this list, check the Utah Department of Public Safety website or your local city government website.

Brigham City

Brigham City prohibits fireworks largely outside of residential and city areas. The map detailing the areas can be found here.

Bryce Canyon

All fireworks within the Bryce Canyon City boundaries are prohibited and can lead to a fine or six months jail time. The city’s official statement can be found here.

Coalville

The citywide fireworks ban will be lifted on July 24 only. This ban takes place from now until Sept. 30. More information can be found here.

Cottonwood Heights

Temporary ban of all aerial fireworks from now to the end of the year.

South Davis County (Bountiful, Woods Cross, Centerville, etc.)

Fireworks can be discharged from Friday to Thursday, July 27 from 11 a.m.- 11 p.m. Hours are extended to midnight on July 24.

Draper

Fireworks are forbidden in all Draper City parks as well as the following locations:

  • East of 1300 East
  • South of 13800 South
  • West of I-15

Eagle Mountain

Fireworks may be lit from Friday to Thursday, July 27 from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. The time will be extended to midnight on July 24. Aerial fireworks are banned within 300 feet of vacant lots and undeveloped land. Ground-based fireworks are prohibited within 50 feet of vacant lots and underdeveloped land. Enoch

Class C fireworks are forbidden within city limits. The exception is the Enoch City Office paved parking lot at 900 E. Midvalley Road and Enoch Elementary School paved parking lot on Tomahawk drive. This information can be found here.

Farmington

Fireworks may be lit from Friday to Thursday, July 27 from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. and the time will be extended to midnight on July 24. Fireworks may not be lit within 20 feet of combustible weeds, grasses, trees, shrubs, fences, structures and city parks.

Fireworks are prohibited east of North Compton Road, 100 East and 350 East. The full map can be found here.

Fruit Heights

Fireworks are banned east of 1600 East. The map of restricted areas can be found here.

Highland

Fireworks are banned in the following subdivisions:

  • Bull River
  • Hidden Oaks
  • Hunter Ridge
  • Highland Hills
  • Beacon Hills
  • View Point
  • Dry Creek Highland
  • Westfield Cove
  • Chamberry Fields
  • Mercer Hollow
  • Country French
Fireworks are also forbidden at Highland Glen Park, Sunset Mountain Properties, the mouth of American Fork Canyon and Skye Estates.

Holladay

Aerial fireworks higher than 8 feet are banned everywhere within Holladay City limits. All fireworks, including sparklers, are forbidden in the following locations:

  • East of I-215, including the freeway right-of-way
  • Cottonwood area
  • Within 100 feet of Spring Creek, Neffs Creek, Big Cottonwood Creek and Creekside Park.

Layton

Aerial fireworks are banned in the following areas:

  • East of 2000 East from the south city limits to Cherry Lane
  • East of Fairfield Road north of Cherry Lane to Church Street
  • East of Church Street from Fairfield Road to Highway 193
  • North of Highway 193 on both sides of Church Street
  • East of 2400 East, Highway 193 to the north city limits
  • North of 3450 North to the city limits east of 2000 East

Lehi

Fireworks north of state Route 92 and along Dry Creek Corridor from 1200 East to Center Street are banned.

Moab

In a special meeting on July 18, the Moab City Council adopted a temporary ban on discharging fireworks within city limits. The ban applies to fireworks that fly, explode or travel more than 6 feet off the ground. Prohibited fireworks include aerial shells, salutes, roman candles, flash shells, comets, mortars, firecrackers, bottle rockets, aerial rockets and other similar explosives.

Murray

Fireworks banned in areas along Murray Parkway. A map of all restricted areas can be listed here.

Ogden

Fireworks are banned in the following areas:

  • All areas east of Harrison Boulevard from the north city to south city boundaries
  • Wall wooded areas by Ogden and Weber River Parkway, from Harrison Boulevard to the west and south city boundaries
  • All parks along the river corridor
  • All of Fort Buenaventura
  • The city baseball and dog park located off A Avenue
  • Old landfill property located around 2550 A Avenue near Fort Buenaventura
  • All open fields, vacant lots, wooded areas and brush-covered hillsides

Orem

All areas east of Carterville Road and Palisades Drive between the southern city limit and 800 North are prohibited. Fireworks east of 800 East to the city limits are also banned.

Payson

Fireworks are restricted along and south of the High Lane canal.

Pleasant Grove

Fireworks are forbidden east of Canyon road. A map showing restricted areas can be found here.

Provo

Consumer fireworks can be lit in the following parks:

  • Provost Park, 629 S. 1000 East
  • Kiwanis Park, 820 N. 1100 East
  • Sertoma Park, 400 E. 2400 North
  • Exchange Park, 900 N. 700 West
  • Fort Utah Park, 200 N. Geneva Road
  • Footprinters Park, 1150 S. 1350 West
Fireworks are banned on Brigham Young University campus and east of Timpview Drive from the north to the south city borders. A detailed map of restricted areas can be found here.

Riverdale

All areas east of the Weber River on the south end of the city to the north and all areas from 700 West to the River Glen subdivision are off limits to fireworks. Restrictions in the east area go from the north to south border to the 300 West and Riverdale Road intersections. Fireworks are also banned along the southwest bench area.

Roy

Class C fireworks are banned in:

  • The Roy segment of the Denver and Rio Grande Trail
  • Bamberger tracks
  • Property at 4800 S. Midland Drive to 5000 S. Midland Drive
  • East to 3500 West from 4800 South - 5000 South
  • 2175 W. 4000 South to George Wahlen North Park and east to 1950 West
  • Layton Canal
  • The reservoir located around 5200 S. 3750 West
  • All property maintained by Weber Basin Water
  • Any property owned by Ogden City Airport

Salt Lake City

Fireworks are allowed Friday until Thursday, July 27. All fireworks, aerial and otherwise, are banned in the following areas:

  • East of 900 East
  • West of Redwood Road
  • North of South Temple Street, but are allowed going south to the city border

Sandy

Fireworks are banned along and east of Dimple Dell Road, as well as most city parks and property.

Saratoga Springs

Fireworks banned within 50 feet of vacant buildings, industrial areas, near dry vegetative growth or near combustible material. Fireworks are also forbidden within 200 feet of open fields and agricultural areas with dry vegetation or combustible materials.

South Jordan

Vegetation areas along the Bingham Creek and Jordan Parkway Trails are forbidden. Fireworks are allowed in picnic areas and within 25 feet of undeveloped land containing dry vegetation are off-limits.

Spanish Fork

Fireworks are prohibited in the following areas:

  • All industrial zones
  • All areas south of the Spanish Fork River, from the west end of Spanish Oaks Golf Course, east to the city limits
  • Within 200 feet of any open field and vacant building or unimproved lot with dry vegetation

Springville

The City Council approved a resolution Tuesday banning all fireworks in any area west of the 400 West railroad tracks and along the tracks south as they follow U.S. 89.

The council also banned fireworks from an area near Clyde Park, where two fires were started by fireworks on July 4. A previous ban along the city’s east bench remains in place.

According to a press release announcing the ban, city firefighters responded to eight fireworks-related blazes in one hour on the Fourth of July.

St. George

Fireworks are forbidden within 250 of the following areas:

  • Dry washes and drainages
  • River and stream corridors
  • Hillsides, plateaus and mesa tops
  • Undeveloped open space or natural terrain
  • Development area north of Snow Canyon Parkway on state Road 18
  • The Ledges development

Taylorsville

Fireworks are not allowed to be lit at public schools, parks, empty lots and along I-215.

Vernal

Aerial fireworks are not allowed in the Vernal City park. The city’s official statement can be found here.

Washington City

Washington City prohibits the use of fireworks east of Washington Fields Road and all areas north of I-15.

Washington Terrace

No fireworks are allowed south of Ridgeline Drive and west of 500 West. This includes Riverdale residents.

Weber

Fireworks are forbidden in all unincorporated Weber County areas east of Highway 89, Harrison Boulevard and Mountain Road. Upper Ogden Valley and Huntsville City fall into this category.

West Jordan

Aerial fireworks are banned throughout the city from Friday to Thursday, July 27 except for at the Veterans Memorial Baseball Complex at 1985 W. 7800 South and the Ron Wood Baseball Complex at 5900 W. New Bingham Highway from 9:30 p.m. to midnight.

Aerials and all other fireworks are restricted in the following areas:

  • Everywhere west of S.R. 111 and Bacchus Highway
  • All areas within 200 feet of the Jordan River Parkway Trail east of 1300 West
  • Within 200 feet of Clay Hollow Wash, running east and west approximately 4800 West to S.R. 111
  • Areas within 200 feet of Bingham Creek, located near the Old Bingham Highway, running along the east and west city boundaries.
  • All city parks

West Valley

Fireworks are restricted in the following areas:

  • Along Jordan River Parkway and any property adjacent to the parkway
  • Along 6400 West from 4700 South to 5400 South
  • All areas immediately adjacent to Orbital ATK
  • City parks and properties
  • Within 100 feet of city irrigation canals
  • Within 100 feet of any flammable and combustible materials
  • Within 20 feet of any residence, dwelling or structure
  • West of S.R. 111
