PARK CITY — A Duchesne man was killed and a West Jordan woman is in critical condition after a semitrailer struck a passenger car Friday night.

Landon B. Peatross, 41, was pronounced dead at Park City Hospital, where he was taken following the accident on U.S. 40 shortly after midnight, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. The driver of the car he was riding in, a 40-year-old woman whom troopers did not identify, was flown to the University of Utah Hospital in critical condition.

The semi driver, pulling a double-tanker rig, was westbound on U.S. 40, when he crested a hill and rear-ended the slower moving Saturn, the UHP reported, noting that "the truck did not appear to be traveling very fast."

According to troopers, the truck driver was distracted by his phone when he rear-ended the Saturn. All occupants in the vehicles were wearing seatbelts.
