SPANISH FORK — If Grantsville’s offense didn’t carry the load in its Class 3A state softball semifinal against Ridgeline, its defense did the trick.
Hannah Butler hit a home run, and the Cowboys held off the Riverhawks 4-1 to advance to the 3A championship game Saturday at Spanish Fork Complex.
Not to be outdone by their hitters, Cowboys third baseman Kylee Leach made a diving catch to start the game, and Grantsville made a series of defensive stops to secure the win.
Ridgeline knocked off top-seeded Juab in Thursday’s quarterfinals, but will face Bear River in the one-loss bracket championship for the right to face Grantsville in the state title game Saturday.
