ANETH, San Juan County — Local and federal agencies were looking Friday for a gunman in the fatal shooting of a 46-year-old man on the Navajo Nation in southern Utah.
About 2 p.m. Thursday, a man was shot and killed in Aneth on the Navajo Nation, according to FBI spokeswoman Sandra Barker. Additional details about the shooting were not immediately available.
Officers from the FBI, San Juan County Sheriff's Office and Navajo Division of Public Safety were looking Friday for the person responsible. Barker said Friday that agents did not believe there was any threat to public safety.
Still, as a precaution, Whitehorse High School and Montezuma Creek Elementary School were both closed Friday as the search for the gunman continued. The shooting was not on school property and was not school-related, according to district officials.
