MODENA, Iron County — A man was killed in a rollover accident Wednesday, police said.
Shortly before 3 p.m., the driver of a 2002 Peterbilt tractor truck towing a trailer loaded with dirt was driving west on state Route 56. Utah Highway Patrol said for an unknown reason, the driver allowed the truck to drift off of the right side of the roadway.
The driver then corrected the truck back onto the roadway and went off the left side of the roadway. The driver then over-corrected back towards the roadway, but the weight of the load and truck shifted, causing the truck to tip over and roll onto its side.
The cab of the truck sustained significant damage in the rollover. The driver of the truck, identified by UHP as 73-year-old Morris W. Carter of Beryl, Iron County, was not wearing his seat belt, suffered significant trauma and died at the scene.
UHP did not release any further information.
