SARATOGA SPRINGS — A motorcyclist participating in a fundraiser ride Saturday morning was killed after colliding with an SUV, according to Saratoga Springs police.

David Mott, 62, of Lehi, was riding from Salt Lake City to Eureka, said Saratoga Springs police Cpl. Jason Ruch.

“During the ride, there was an SUV and a few vehicles in front of the rider,” Ruch said. “The SUV had stopped to turn left into a home. The motorcycle rider at the same time tried to pass on the left side, not seeing the SUV turn left, and collided with the driver’s side of the SUV.”

Ruch said several motorcycle riders pulled over to try to help the man before medical and police officers arrived at the scene. Emergency responders performed life-saving procedures on Mott but he died from his injuries, Ruch said.

Mott was participating in the 6th annual Ride to Light Up Eureka event hosted by KSL’s Doug Wright, Intermountain Harley-Davidson and Burt Brothers Tire and Service this year. The money was being raised to go toward restoring the Elk Lodge in Eureka.

The driver of the SUV remained on the scene following the crash and was cooperating with authorities.

“He was pretty shaken up from the incident but very cooperative,” Ruch said.

Authorities said Redwood Road was closed in both directions one mile south of Saratoga Springs and advised drivers to use alternate routes.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
