PROVO — Summer is just around the corner, and with it comes a slew of local concert festivals.

The Provo Rooftop Concert Series, now in its eighth year, recently announced its first show for the 2017 festival. Local band The Aces will headline the free concert series for its first time, launching the beginning of the season on Friday, May 5 at 7:30 p.m. Foreign Figures and Festive People will open the show.

The Aces premiered its debut EP, “I Don’t Like Being Honest” in April after signing with Red Bull Records in October. The group is slated for a busy tour this fall.

"Honestly, with the national success and attention The Aces are getting right now, we're sort of afraid we might not get them back on our stage for a while,” Provo Rooftop Concert Series event co-founder Courtney Kendrick said in a news release. “So many of us have watched them literally grow up on stage and they've turned into a very tight, current, pop band.”

The concert series highlights local talent and will include a concert on the first Friday of each month from May until September. The other performers have not yet been announced. The rest of the lineup will be released on the Provo Concert Series website throughout the summer.

The Aces will perform at the NuSkin Plaza on 100 West and Center Street in Provo.

The Provo Concert Series began in 2010 as part of the “Center Focus initiative to revitalize downtown Provo,” the news release said.
