SALT LAKE CITY — No matter what sport you play, everybody dreams of the moment: down one, pushing to extend the game, and frantically making an incredible shot to win the game or force an extra period.
Utah’s Quinton Swinney found himself in that situation Thursday night against Colorado lacrosse.
The only difference: Swinney is a goalkeeper, and his miracle shot helped the No. 13 Utes (8-3) stun the third-ranked Buffs in a Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association match Thursday at Ute Soccer Field.
Yesterday's Have You Seen This?
With Colorado (11-3) pushing high with a one-goal lead midway through the third period, Swinney made a save at the edge of his crease to stop an attack. As the Buffs tried to regroup on defense, Swinney heaved a full-field fling — then stared as the bird struck the back of the empty net for an 8-8 tie.
Utah went on to win 12-11 behind four goals from Gus Colonna and two goals and two assists from Ian Elson.
The Utes host No. 10 Colorado State at 1 p.m. Saturday, in case anyone wants to see Swinney try to repeat the trick. But if you can't make that game, watch the video to see it for yourself.
