PARK CITY — Getting older doesn't mean you have to slow down and put on weight. A Park City man who is embracing his age after dropping 25 pounds while working with the Intermountain LiVe Well Center.

For years you've seen Brian McInerney give us his spring runoff forecasts. He's a hydrologist for the National Weather Service. Two years ago he decided he needed a change — not in his work, but his lifestyle.

“At the time, I was out of shape. I was overweight," McInerney said. "I was slowing down and I thought people would say you're getting older. I was 54 at the time, that's just how it is you slow down as you get older."

The nature-loving, outdoors guy, wanted to prove people wrong. He found himself inside at the Park City LiveWell center where he signed up for a personalized healthy lifestyle evaluation.

They took a close look at his blood work, sleep schedule, eating habits, physical activity and stress levels.

"I just worked with Brain on making simple realistic changes that he could implement from day to day so that his lifestyle could be his medicine," said Becky Cannon, a registered dietitian at the LiVe Well Center at Park City Hospital.

McInerney said the one-on-one personal attention was key in helping him develop new habits and mindfulness. "They put together a plan and really it was an education on how to live a better life," he said.

"Mindfulness helps you check in with how you feel because we know that knowledge does not lead to behavior but how you feel can lead to that behavior," Cannon said.

People are now seeing less of McInerney — 25 pounds less — and he's kept it off.

“I'm lighter, I’m faster and I perform at a much higher level," he said.

Especially on the ice, playing hockey with his friends.

"I'm the oldest guy by 20 years and yet, my scoring is still up and life is much better all around,” McInerney said.

McInerney 's insurance covered his initial physical, blood work and almost everything he did at the Park City LiVe Well Center. They can answer any questions you may have about your particular insurance coverage.
