LAYTON — A Syracuse man has been charged with first-degree felony aggravated robbery in connection with an armed bank robbery in February.

Jason Lee Burton, 35, is accused of being one of the two men wanted in the Feb. 27 armed robbery of the America First Credit Union in Layton.

Camera footage showed two men wearing gloves, masks and hooded sweatshirts, robbing the America First Credit Union, according to documents filed on Monday in 2nd District Court.

Layton police reported that one man held a handgun while the other collected money from the bank tellers. Security camera footage from a neighboring business showing the two men leave in a maroon truck, court documents noted.

A camouflage-pattern glove fell from the truck as it left and the officers tracked the purchase of the glove to a nearby Wal-Mart, where a Spiderman sweatshirt similar to the one worn by one of the robbers was also purchased, according to charging documents.

The police obtained camera footage from the store during the time that two men and two women went to purchase those clothing items. Further footage also showed the group leave in a maroon truck, documents noted.

Police said a parole agent viewing the footage recognized Burton as a former probationer, previously convicted of bank robbery.

After speaking with Burton's mother, police concluded that Burton had been driving the maroon truck around the time of the robbery, court documents say.

Burton was arrested on March 14 at the Budget Inn in Ogden. Email: rmorgan@deseretnews.com
