CORPUS CHRIST, Texas — Jeremy Senglin was going to give everything he could to try to extend Weber State’s season Monday night.
It just wasn’t quite enough.
Rashawn Thomas poured in 29 points and eight rebounds to help Texas A&M Corpus Christi hold off the Wildcats 82-73 in the second round of the CIT in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Ehab Amin supplied 25 points, seven rebounds and four assists for the Islanders.
Senglin led Weber State with 27 points, including six 3-pointers. Jerrick Harding supplied 18 points for the Wildcats, and teammate Ryan Richardson scored 15.
Senglin had 11 points in the first half, and Weber State ended the half on a 14-4 run to pull within 36-35 at the break.
But that was as close as they would get. The Islanders opened the second half on a 10-4 run, capped by Amin’s dunk to go up 45-39 with 16:21 left, and the home team never looked back.
Dusty Baker’s 3-pointer pulled the Wildcats within five, 60-55 with 9:11 left, and the Wildcats stayed around the mark the way through Senglin’s triple with 1:32 remaining but could get no closer.
Senglin set a Big Sky single-season record with 129 3-pointers, the most treys by a single player in the country.
