LOGAN, Utah (AP) — A 28-year-old former Brigham City firefighter who died in an icy crash on I-15 Thursday was training to be a police officer, officials say.

Patrol Lt. Lee Perry tells the Herald Journal that Austin Taylor was behind the wheel of a Ford Escort that crashed into a cable barrier and then hit a FedEx truck about 5:15 a.m. Thursday near Willard.

Perry says it appears Taylor was driving too fast for the slippery road conditions.

Taylor was training to become a police officer at the Weber State Police Academy. He is survived by his wife, Marissa and their two daughters, according to his obituary. His wife is expecting another baby girl in May.
