WEST MOUNTAIN, Utah County — A Payson man was arrested Tuesday after police said he held an 18-year-old woman against her will inside his home.

Nicholas Charles Leippe, 41, was arrested and booked into Utah County Jail on suspicion of aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony, according to jail records.

"This woman was held against her will. She tried to leave last night after she came here to pick up a few personal items," said Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon. "The 41-year-old male who lives in this home would not let her leave."

Cannon said he expects other charges will be added as police continue to investigate the incident. He said police were unsure of the previous relationship between the two individuals.

"The only thing we know for sure is that they knew each other," he said. "What exactly was the nature of their connection between each other was we are not certain."

Police received a call about a possible kidnapping situation involving a woman at a home near 8600 South and 5600 West at about 10:45 a.m., according to Utah County Sheriff’s Lt. Yvette Rice.

Cannon said the initial report came from a friend of the woman being held in the house who said she had been texting back and forth with the woman.

"As the evening went on, she became more concerned because of what she was being told in the text messages," Cannon said.

Rice said deputies went to the home and knocked on the door, but there was no response.

After gathering more information, the deputies received a search warrant which was carried out at 12:30 p.m. During the search the 41-year-old man and 18-year-old woman were both found inside the home.

Rice said the man cooperated with deputies and was taken into custody. The woman suffered injuries, Rice added, but those injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Court records show Leippe has no previous criminal history other than traffic violations.
