SPANISH FORK — An elderly man who was critically injured in an auto-pedestrian accident Monday evening has since died from his injuries, police said.

The accident occurred just before 7 p.m. near 720 N. Main St., according to Spanish Fork police. A 95-year-old man was attempting to cross Main Street at the intersection and was struck by a 2006 Volkswagen passenger car traveling northbound, police said.

The Spanish Fork man, later identified as Ralph H. Andrus, was critically injured and was transported by ambulance to Utah Valley Hospital. He later died at the hospital from injuries sustained in the accident.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident is a 26-year-old male from Spanish Fork. He remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Police said Andrus was wearing dark colored clothing and crossed in an uncontrolled intersection where a painted crosswalk is not present. Investigators said it appeared the driver did not see Andrus as he was attempting to cross the street.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a contributing factor in the accident, police said. The incident will be reviewed by the Spanish Fork City Attorney’s Office to determine if any criminal charges are necessary.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
