SOUTH SALT LAKE — Police on Saturday were trying to determine the circumstances that led to the stabbing of a homeless man Friday night.

The injured man, 40, walked into a convenience store at 500 East and 3900 South about 9:45 p.m. He was "apparently losing a lot of blood" due to a stab wound in his back, South Salt Lake police detective Gary Keller said.

When questioned by officers, the victim was "very uncooperative" and gave police little information regarding what had occurred, he said.

Investigators were able to follow a blood trail back to a "camp" at 449 E. 3900 South, not far from the convenience store. The man was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
