PLEASANT GROVE — We've all at one point had critters in our homes that don't belong. But bugs and mice are pretty normal compared to this.

Jared Overton discovered a falcon inside his bathroom Thursday night. He was quick thinking enough to get out his phone and start recording.

"Just as I turned the corner, before I flipped on the light — and it was pitch black — I just hear this flapping of wings," Overton said.

Waiting in the dark was an American Kestrel falcon. It wasn't happy to be stuck in the bathroom. Overton can be heard on the video screaming and yelling, "why is this happening to me?!" while the falcon continuously swooped from overhead.

"It scared me to death, and so I just jet out of the bathroom," said Overton.

He also FaceTimed his kids so they could be in on the action.

"If it takes me and flies me away, I love you!" Overton is heard saying.

Giggling kids said, "I love you too!"

For about 30 minutes, Overton said he tried to get the bird to go back outside — all while under constant attack. Officers with the Division of Wildlife Resources say falcons can be very aggressive. Several times during the video, it can be seen dive-bombing Overton.

The falcon got in through a 2-inch gap in Overton's bedroom window. Despite how hard he tried, he couldn't get it to fly back out. He eventually held up a sheet in his bathroom door. When the falcon flew into it and got tangled up, Overton tried to put it out the window. It took two tries but it finally worked.

Overton has a shipping company called Pigeonship. He joked the falcon must have been holding a grudge.

"I don't think the falcon liked the fact that we promote pigeons," Overton said. "I have no idea, but the fact that it's picking on me says a lot."

If a large bird gets inside your home, wildlife officers say you should turn off your lights and open all your doors and windows. If that doesn't work, they don't recommend trying to catch it because you could hurt yourself or the bird. Instead, give the Division of Wildlife Resources a call.
