SALT LAKE CITY — As Karen Carpenter used to sing, “Rainy days and Mondays always get me down.”

A helpful stranger

David Z.

“I work with children with severe behavioral problems, extreme anxiety, defiance and a variety of other problems. I have a sandbox that children often use to express themselves. It was much too small for the demand I have. I knew I needed to build a bigger one.

"I was buying some lumber and loading it onto the roof of my 2002 Buick LeSabre. As I was tying it down, Larry, a stranger who noticed I needed help, offered to haul the wood in his truck to my home. And that he did. Thanks, Larry.”

A generous child

Dave L.

“One of my daughter's friends (Adele) got her and my daughter (Katherine) to donate all their box tops to the Eaglecrest Elementary School special needs class in Lehi, because they have never won the competition. This year, that class is in second place. One of the special needs kids is in my daughter's class, and he talks repeatedly about how excited they are to potentially win and how they've never won. I wanted to call attention to Adele and her incredible spirit of generosity!”
