SALT LAKE CITY — Finally, it’s the week of Utah’s season opener. Only four days remain until the Utes kick off against Southern Utah, so today we will highlight the only player to wear No. 4 this season, Troy McCormick.

Troy McCormick, RS-JR, running back

With the loss of Devontae Booker, the Utes will be relying on a committee of running backs to make up for it. Joe Williams filled in admirably at the end of last season when Booker went down with injury, but backup McCormick will be getting his fair share of carries this field. The duo will be a thunder and lightning combination, as Williams brings the size and power while McCormick is known for his quickness and shiftiness.

Standing at just 5-foot-9, 178 pounds, McCormick, coming from Katy, Texas, makes up for his lack of size with bursts of agility. He’s been clocked at 4.46 in the 40-yard dash and has a vertical jump of 37 inches. His athleticism is no joke and he’s been showcasing it throughout fall and spring camps.

McCormick, whose only other Power 5 offer was from Duke, never even saw the field after an ACL in practice sidelined him for the entirety of the 2015 season. After rehabbing it for a majority of the last calendar year, McCormick looks healthy and ready to make his impact for the Utes in 2016.

As a senior in high school, McCormick rushed for 176.8 yards per game to go with his 21 touchdowns. He also recorded four 200-yard games that same season. Check out some of his prep highlights here. Twitter: @GriffDoug
