SALT LAKE CITY — In the game of life, there are good plays, great moments and there are obstacles sometimes hard to navigate.

15-year-old Nick tries not to think about the obstacles. Instead, he chooses to look at the positive things in life.

“I have a good sense of humor,” he said. “I have self-confidence and I don't give up.” Nick said it's his optimism that has helped him survive years of living in foster care. His optimism has helped him survive 16 different moves.

“I live in foster care because when I was younger my parents would abuse me.”

It was tough for Nick, and he feels his tough times aren't over.

“Knowing that this is just temporary, one day I'll have to move, so it's kind of hard to gain a really good relationship,” Nick said. “Especially with someone you really love and you don't want to make that relationship too strong and then outta nowhere you got to leave.”

Still, Nick chooses to have hope.

“I really want to be adopted so when I grow up, I can have someone I can look up to and someone I can call mom and dad. Having a forever family means to me, if you need somebody to look up to, you can go to that person that's there forever.”

He hopes there's a dad out there who will want to play football with him.

Today, Nick is putting the obstacles of life behind him and getting some one-on-one practice with former BYU and NFL football great Bryan Kehl, who is sharing his skills, knowledge and of course his love of football.

“I feel fortunate and blessed and so I like to try and in any way that I can,” Kehl said.
