CORTEZ, Colo. (AP) — The Ute Mountain Ute tribe has been awarded $9 million to upgrade water infrastructure and wastewater facilities on the reservation.

The Cortez Journal reports that the federal grant will pay for municipal projects in Towaoc and two in White Mesa, the tribe's satellite community in southeast Utah.

In all, the tribe is planning four projects across the two sites. The projects will be put out for competitive bidding and construction is expected to begin in spring 2017.

In Towaoc, the tribe's headquarters, officials plan to upgrade the wastewater treatment facility and install watermeters to homes. At White Mesa officials will install a new water-treatment plant and repair a wastewater system.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture, which issued the grant, plans to film construction and interview tribal members as part of a documentary.
