BENJAMIN, Utah County — There are machines for almost everything, except good old-fashioned yard work.

For Tracey Peart, helping others — like helping someone with their yard work — is special.

"It isn't the big things that you remember, it's the little things," Peart said.

On Wednesday, Peart and others helped Nannette Wride receive a very welcome present from local businesses, friends and family with a yard makeover. Nannette is the widow of Utah County Sgt. Cory Wride, who was shot and killed in the line of duty two and a half years ago.

Peart was among several of Wride's friends and neighbors to lay down sod in Wride's yard in Benjamin as a gesture of appreciation for her police advocacy work since her husband's death.

“She really hasn't had time to do her yard," Peart said. "She’s out there and helping everybody else, and she’s very selfless and serving other people."

Wride couldn't believe her friend set this all up for her.

"I didn't have a yard or anything here and I didn't have time because I was doing my charities and it was just kind of depressing to come home to," Wride said.

For Wride, it really is the little things.

"This means the world because I can actually grab breakfast out on my desk or run my fingers through the grass and feel like there's life here," she said.

Dragging around heavy pieces of rock and big pieces of sod wasn't easy on a hot day, but everyone volunteering said it didn't matter.

"It's so much more than grass and yard work," Peart said. "It’s planting seeds in people's hearts."

It's also proof there are people interested in doing good, especially for someone who has been through so much bad.

"You know what? Love always wins. Yes, absolutely," Wride said.
