DRAPER — A local teen’s knack for cooking earned him $10,000 when he won the season 3 premiere of “Chopped Junior” on Food Network.

Jack Pollock, 13, appeared on the show Tuesday evening. During each round — appetizer, entree and dessert — the contenders had to use four mystery ingredients to create their masterpieces in 30 minutes, and one chef gets “chopped” each round, according to Pollock.

During round one, Pollock made a kale and dandelion green salad with sloppy joe bun croutons, charred tomatillos and popcorn chip crunch. For the second round, he made a turnip green and Sicilian pesto on top of pasta with steamed lobster and seared fiddlehead ferns, he said.

“The third round I made a strawberry rhubarb tart with glazed bacon and a fruit punch mayo ice cream,” he said.

The young chef said he’s been cooking as long as he can remember. He enjoys making Italian food and burgers, and he would really like to open up a food truck.

“The best part about being on the show was definitely getting to kind of show off my skills and getting to meet really good friends,” he said.

A girl who was on the show with him has become one of his really good friends, he said. He wants to use part of his prize money to visit her in Connecticut for her birthday. He also wants to put some money toward new kitchen supplies, he said.

Those who would like to watch Pollock’s episode of “Chopped Junior” can buy it on Amazon.com. The episode will be shown again at 2 p.m. Saturday on Food Network.
