TAYLORSVILLE — Two teenage girls were injured, one of them critically, after being struck by a car in a Taylorsville intersection Tuesday night.

The two girls were in a crosswalk at the intersection of Murray Taylorsville Road (4800 South) and Woodhaven Drive (1365 West) around 9:15 p.m. when an eastbound sedan hit them, said Unified police detective Ken Hansen.

The 15-year-old girl who was hit was critically hurt, Hansen said. Her 16-year-old companion was seriously injured. Both were hospitalized.

The girls are both from Taylorsville, according to the detective.

Police were investigating Tuesday night why the driver of the sedan, a woman in hier late 20s, struck the girls. The woman was in the vehicle with multiple other family members at the time of the crash, Hansen said. Nobody inside the car was injured.

Alcohol was not initially believed to be a factor, he said. The driver was not arrested or formally cited as of about 11 p.m., but the investigation into the incident was in its beginning stages, Hansen added.
