PHILADELPHIA (CNN) — Hillary Clinton's image is now at its lowest point in her 24-year career on the national political scene, a new poll shows.

Clinton's is viewed unfavorably by 57 percent of Americans, compared to 38 percent who view her favorably, according to Gallup's daily tracking poll.

While those are problematic marks for her campaign, they mean Clinton is only slightly more popular than her Republican opponent Donald Trump — whose favorability rating is at 36 percent compared to 59 percent who see him unfavorably.

It's a sharp drop for Clinton, whose numbers been turned on their head from when she left public office in 2013 after a four-year stint as President Barack Obama's secretary of state.

A CNN/ORC poll found Donald Trump had surged past her into the lead in the presidential race last week, with a strong bump out of the Republican National Convention. That suggests Clinton could benefit from this week's Democratic National Convention, as well.

Clinton is still popular with Democrats, with 71 percent viewing her favorably while just 8 percent view her unfavorably.

The Gallup tracking survey is based on seven-day averages via telephone interviews conducted July 16-23, from 3,545 adults.
