CEDAR CITY — A 34-year-old man is dead and a 27-year-old suspect remains at large following an apparent homicide Sunday morning, police said.

Officers were dispatched to a residence near 500 N. 400 West to a report of gunshots fired just after 6:35 a.m., according to Cedar City Police Sgt. Jerry Womack.

Womack said responding officers found the 34-year-old man, whose name was not immediately released, dead at the scene.

Womack said 27-year-old Mark Mair is a suspect in the case, but fled the scene and it is believed he left the area. Mair is described as 5-foot-7 with stocky build, brown, short-cropped hair and has a soul patch on his chin, according to the CCPD.

Mair also has a Playboy bunny logo tattooed on the left side of his neck, Womack said.

Womack said Mair had a .40-caliber handgun at the time of the shooting and is also believed to be in possession of another handgun, a SKS rifle and a sawed-off shotgun. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Witnesses told CCPD that Mair left in a tan four-door sedan driven by a woman with "dishwater blonde hair," Womack said.

Late Sunday, police said they believe Mair may have altered his appearance by shaving his facial hair and shaving his head. Police also believe Mair may be with a woman named Michelle Partridge. Police say Mair and Partridge may have switched vehicles and may possibly be in a blue or grey SUV type vehicle similar to a Dodge Durango.

Womack added anyone who may have any information regarding Mair's whereabouts should not approach him and instead call CCPD at 435-586-2956.

The incident remains under investigation.
