SOUTH JORDAN — On Friday, private contractors installing communication cables underground accidentally hit a 42-inch water main, knocking water out to thousands in the area.
The pipeline feeds about 40 million gallons of water to residents and businesses in this area. Crews worked through the night get it fixed.
“We're hoping to have it up in 24 hours,” said Gordon Bat of the Jordan Valley Water Conservation District. “We don’t know the extent of the damages. Once we find that out, we will be able to more determine how long it will be down.”
Residents living in the areas affected may not have water at all or water pressure could be low until Saturday evening.
If you have a home or business west of 4000 West, officials are asking you not to water your lawns and turn on your sprinkler systems for the next 24 hours to help alleviate the water pressure to other homes.
Jordan Valley Water officials say you can use the hashtag "OBHBreak" to check on the status of your water.
