PROVO — A fire that destroyed a large garage and everything inside it, including a Camaro, Chevy truck and a snowmobile, is not considered suspicious, according to the Provo Fire Department.
However, Provo Fire Capt. Dean York said investigators are unable to determine exactly how Friday's fire at 4730 N. Mile High Drive started.
"There could be multiple causes to electrical to previous work with a grinder that could have started the fire," he said.
The home will now be turned over to the owner's insurance company to determine an exact cause, York said.
The fire started somewhere in the garage, investigators determined. The homeowner was away at the time. York said firefighters were able to retrieve a dog from the house.
The flames were contained mostly to the garage. The rest of the house sustained smoke damage. Initial damage estimates were between $75,000 to $100,000.
But after learning that an early '80s Camaro, an older Chevy truck, a snowmobile and numerous tools and equipment were lost, the revised estimated is more than $100,000, he said.
