SOUTH JORDAN — For many people, painting is a hobby, something to pass the time or try out for the first time.
Taylor says painting is where she finds peace. Sure, she enjoys her Spanish lessons and has even taken up a few improv classes recently, but it's painting where she finds her center.
"I just think about peaceful things pretty much," she said.
Taylor has a steady hand, a watchful eye and thoughts swirling in her head.
"I feel like it's all going to be OK when I paint," she said.
Sometimes, thoughts of a painful past creep in.
"Life isn't always fair," she said. "It sucks, but it's not."
Taylor says the majority of her life has been spent without stability.
"It was a lot of moving around, so I never really got to stay in one place," she said.
Then, two years ago she entered the Utah Foster Care System.
"My (biological) mom put me through a lot of things I shouldn't have gone through, and it feels nice not to have to worry about it," she said.
Instead, she's traded one color of worry for another. Now she has questions like, where will she be? What will she be doing and will she be adopted?
"You know, it's been tough, but I have some support."
For now, that support comes from her case worker. Taylor hopes a family will be willing to step into that role soon.
Many people think of painting as just a hobby, but for Taylor, she's painting a picture of a brighter future.
"I always seem to pull through it," she said.
