Summer Locals: Fredette shoots Denver to rout; Davies, Collinsworth debut in Vegas

LAS VEGAS — After a year in the NBA D-League, Jimmer Fredette has been trying to revitalize his NBA career with the Denver Nuggets’ summer league team.

The former BYU star was back to being Jimmer Fredette on Saturday evening at Cox Pavillion in Las Vegas.

Fredette, who started and played more than 26 minutes, poured in a game-high 26 points and three assists to lead the Nuggets to a 106-61 rout of Memphis in Denver’s second game of the NBA Summer League.

“You’ve just got to go out there, be aggressive, play your game,” Fredette told NBAtv after the game. “I feel really confident with how I’m playing right now.

“I’m just trying to go out and play the best I can, and help the team win.”

Fredette finished with a game-high plus-38 rating, dishing out three assists and two steals with no turnovers for Denver (2-0). He shot 8 of 18 from the field, and added 4 of 8 from the 3-point line in the Nuggets’ big win.

Fredette scored a game-high 19 points, including a 4-of-7 effort from 3-point range, in the first half to lead the Nuggets to a 65-38 halftime rout.

Teammate Petr Cornelie was the only other player to score in double figures through the first 20 minutes, adding 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Jakarr Sampson supplied 16 points and three assists off the bench for Denver.

Wade Baldwin IV was the only player for the Grizzlies (1-1) to score in double figures, finishing with a team-high 10 points and four rebounds, along with a minus-27 rating.

Chicago 71, Boston 62 — At Cox Pavilion, former BYU and Provo High post Brandon Davies had two points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal in just under 12 minutes off the bench in his second game in as many cities in two days to help the Bulls to a Las Vegas Summer League win.

Davies finished with a plus-10 rating, second-highest on the team, a day after coming off the bench for the Pistons in the Orlando Summer League finale against the champion Orlando White squad.

Bobby Portis led the Bulls with 17 points, 13 rebounds and a blocked shot.

Dallas 83, Miami 64 — At Cox Pavilion, former BYU point guard Kyle Collinsworth had four points, three assists, four rebounds and two steals in just over 20 minutes off the bench to help the Mavericks’ open the Las Vegas Summer League with a win over the Heat.

Jonathan Gibson led Dallas (1-0) with 30 points on 12-of-19 shooting.

Rodney McGruder led Miami (0-1) with 18 points.
