MILLCREEK — A 2-year-old boy was found wandering alone his in pajamas early Friday by a passerby.

The grandparents of the boy called police about 6:30 a.m. to report the child was missing and they were reunited with their grandchild a short time later.

The incident began about 3 a.m. when the blond-haired boy wearing Spider-Man pajamas, who was spending the night at his grandparents' home near 3900 South and 2000 East, was able to reach the deadbolt on the front door and walk out, said Unified police detective Ken Hansen.

Just before 3:50 a.m., the boy was spotted by a passerby a few blocks away and police were called. The boy was not injured, Hansen said, but he wasn't able to tell officers where he lived.

"The only thing he was able to say was his name," he said.

The boy was taken to the police station and then to the Christmas Box House. By 5:30 a.m., officers had put out the boy's picture on social media to try and locate the parents or guardians.

When the grandparents woke up about 6:30 a.m. and realized he was no longer in the house, they called police. Hansen said officers went to the grandparents' home prior to reuniting the boy with them to make sure everything was OK inside the house.

"They said it was actually a pristine house. So they got the explanation that he was unexpectedly able to open the front door and get out," he said.

The boy was then reunited with his grandparents.
