OGDEN — Former Utah men’s basketball forward and Roy High standout Brekkott Chapman is transferring to Weber State to continue his basketball career.
“Thank you to all the Ute fans that supported me throughout the last couple of years. You guys were amazing! But the time has come for me to move on and I am proud to say that I am now a Wildcat!” Chapman said in a note posted to his Twitter account.
Chapman, who has two years left of eligibility, averaged 4.4 points and 2.8 rebounds in 36 games during his sophomore season at Utah. In addition to playing in all 36 of Utah’s games last season, he started one game.
He appeared in all of Utah’s 35 games during his freshman campaign and averaged 5.7 points. Chapman announced he was transferring in May.
“We feel very strongly that Brekkott will fit our culture well and be a great fit with our players and the university,” Weber State head coach Randy Rahe said in a release. “He has a very exciting future ahead of him and we’re glad he has entrusted us to help him develop in all areas of his life.”
He will sit out the upcoming season due to NCAA’s one-year transfer rule.
Chapman committed to Utah after being highly sought after in high school. Rivals.com rated the Roy High product as a four-star recruit in the 2014 class. He received offers from Arizona, UCLA, Colorado, BYU and Utah State, among other schools.
While at Roy High, Chapman averaged 16.7 points in 21 games during his senior year and 19 points per game game in 24 contests during his junior season. He led the Royals in points per game during his last three seasons.
