SALT LAKE CITY — Three more fun stories from the world of sports in today's From Left Field!

1. Man eats his own shirt after Warriors win series

A classic of the genre, "if X happens, I'll eat my shirt!" seems like a perfect way to make sweeping statements without having to deal with the consequences.

But this Cleveland Cavaliers fan is true to his word: after the Golden State Warriors came back from a 3-1 deficit to win the Western Conference Finals Monday night, he ate his own shirt.

It's just a phrase, everyone. Do not try this at home.

2. Kidnapped soccer player beats up captors to escape

Whoa! On Saturday, Mexican national team striker Alan Pulido was kidnapped for ransom. He escaped Monday, and now we've learned how. From the BBC:

An official report of the calls Pulido made to the emergency operator, obtained by the Associated Press, revealed that he threatened and beat the kidnapper while on the phone, demanding to be told where they were.

That's incredible. Who's going to mess with Pulido on the pitch now? We're glad he's safe.

3. Wawrinka hits with ball boy

Stan Wawrinka was playing Victor Troicki in the fourth round of the French Open Sunday, when Troicki needed medical attention. Instead of sitting on the bench and getting cold, Wawrinka asked one of the ballboys to play tennis with him to keep him warm.

What a dream come true for the kid.
