SALT LAKE CITY — At least five people were arrested by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force over the weekend.
Despite the similarity of all of the cases, a spokesman with the Utah Attorney General's Office said Monday that he could neither confirm nor deny that the ICAC team was involved in any special investigation or roundup.
In each case, investigators arrested a man they had contacted either Wednesday or Thursday through Craigslist, according to several Salt Lake County Jail reports. In each arrest, an ICAC agent posed as a young girl, usually 13, and a man replied that he was interested in meeting for the purpose of illegal sexual contact, the reports state.
Undercover agents arranged meetings with the men over the weekend and each was arrested as they arrived.
In one case, a man posted an ad on Craigslist about purchasing a video game, apparently to get the phone numbers of young people, the report states.
One man, Mathew Mikal Pots, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with two counts of conspiracy to commit rape of a child, a first-degree felony.
