THE FUTURE — Internet madman Colin Furze is back at it, this time creating an apparatus we didn’t know we wanted, mostly because we didn’t know it existed: a hoverbike.
The build was sponsored as a part of Ford’s #Unlearn project, which the company said is “parking what we know, taking a fresh look at the familiar and finding new ways to make progress.” Furze — a plumber by day — said in the description of his YouTube video of the contraption that he went into his shed, dedicated himself to the build and came out with the monstrous bike.
Furze writes of the vehicle, it’s an “unhinged flying bike/human blender but unbelievably, it gets off the ground.”
If you watch the video, you’ll quickly notice that yes, the bike gets off the ground, but there’s really no way to steer it. And if you fell wrong, it’s very likely that you’d lose a limb or two. It’s still pretty remarkable and fun to watch.
Good for Ford for promoting the #Unlearn campaign in conjunction with Furze. As Ford said, “When we unlearn, we let go of what we know and that’s when we go further.”
If you're interested in any more insanity from Furze, he's also built a stroller that can reach speeds of 50 mph, a bike made with ice wheels and a rocket launcher that removes socks.
