SANDY — An elderly man who was hit and killed while looking for his dog Friday night has been identified as David Feldman.

Feldman, 90, was crossing 10600 South near 300 East when an SUV hit him at about 7:45 p.m., said Sandy Police Lt. Jon Arnold. Arnold said the dog was apparently on the other side of the street, on the sidewalk opposite of where Feldman was and the dog wasn't hit.

"This is unfortunately a very tragic accident," Arnold said.

Feldman was not in a crosswalk when he was hit and the street was lit by street lights. Arnold said Feldman died from injuries sustained at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the SUV was cooperating with the investigation and it is unknown whether he will be cited, Arnold said.
