OREM — Utah Valley is getting a mythical national champion.

Former Lone Peak wing Conner Toolson, who currently plays at Salt Lake Community College, committed to new coach Mark Pope and the Wolverines on Friday night.

Scout.com's Evan Daniels first reported the commitment, and another source confirmed Toolson's verbal agreement to KSL minutes later.

Toolson, the son of former BYU basketball player and assistant coach Andy Toolson, is averaging 14.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game as a freshman at SLCC in 2015-16. The 20-year-old recently returned from a two-year mission for the LDS Church to Fort Worth, Texas, rejoining the Bruins and helping them to a 20-4 overall record that includes a 7-2 record in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.

A former second-team all-state honoree, Toolson helped Lone Peak to Class 5A state titles in 2011, 2012 and 2013, which also included the distinction of MaxPreps national champion. Toolson, who was born in Spain, was teammates with several other Division I prospects on that squad, including current BYU guard Nick Emery and current BYU missionaries TJ Haws and Eric Mika.

Toolson was the most valuable player of the 2013 Hoophall Classic, scoring a team-high 22 points with six 3-pointers as the then-junior starred alongside his three BYU-bound teammates in an 81-46 rout of Archbishop Mitty and current Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon.

The 6-foot-4 Toolson was described as a "true shooting guard" out of high school, when he was rated a two-star recruit by ESPN.com.

The recruitment of Toolson comes after four-star prospect Wyatt Lowell of Gilbert, Arizona signed with Utah Valley, where he will play following a two-year mission for the LDS Church in 2018-19. The Wolverines' roster also features a number of other former Division I standouts, including BYU transfer Isaac Neilson, Xavier transfer Brandon Randolph and former Kansas signee Josh Pollard, a graduate of nearby Orem High.
