SANDY — A man whom police have dubbed the "Bucket List Bandit" because of his age and the fact he doesn't look like a typical serial robber, is believed to be responsible for at least five hotel and bank robberies over the past month.
Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell said Tuesday that the man is believed to be responsible for robberies at:
- Hampton Inn, 10690 Holiday Park Dr., Sandy, on Nov. 4
- Staybridge Suites, 747 Blue Vista Lane, Midvale, on Nov. 9
- Wells Fargo inside Fresh Market, 5632 S. 900 East, Murray, on Nov. 10
- U.S. Bank inside Smith's, 10305 S. 1300 East, Sandy, on Dec. 7
- America First Credit Union inside Harmons, 672 E. 11400 South, Draper, about 15 minutes after the Sandy robbery on Dec. 7
Police are concerned that the man is getting more aggressive with each robbery. The man went from handing a note to the clerk in early incidents to pounding the counter and claiming he had a gun in others to threatening patrons in the Draper incident that he'd be waiting in the parking lot if anyone tried to follow, Bell said.
All of the robberies occurred after 6 p.m. In each case, the robber was described as a man about 55 or 60 years old, approximately 6 feet tall, heavy set with gray hair. In some robberies, the man has worn a polo shirt, a Nike sweatshirt in others, and ripped jeans, a green baseball hat and sometimes glasses.
