TUCSON, Ariz. — A new book written by a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints addresses topics such as trial and change.
In "More Than the Tattooed Mormon," Al Carraway shares her story.
The first part of her book highlights her home life, how she was reared and her family. Carraway then writes about how her life changed, what it was like meeting with the LDS missionaries, what it was like losing everyone in her life and leaving everything behind to move across the country.
Part 2 of her book is meant to be about the reader. She said she wrote it for everyone, whether they are LDS, less-active LDS members or nonmembers of the LDS Church.
"... I just want everyone to know that God's real and that they matter and no matter what you're going through, the gospel will help you," Carraway said.
She is open about her trials in the book and uses them to show people how to keep going in hard times.
Carraway doesn't care if readers remember anything about her, but she hopes the spirit is there to teach them.
"...As long as they know that God's there and always has been and always will be, I think that'd be a home run for me," Carraway said.
"More Than The Tattooed Mormon" is available for preorder on Deseret Book,Barnes & Noble and LDS Bookstore and will be released in stores Nov. 17.
Carraway will speak at 6 p.m. Nov. 17 in the Joseph Smith Building auditorium at Brigham Young University. At 7 p.m., she will be available for pictures and book signings.
