MURRAY — Fans of the popular American Girl dolls are in for a holiday treat.
An American Girl store will be opening its doors in Utah for the first time Saturday, although the store is only a temporary setup for the holiday season. The pop-up shop is 2,600 square feet and will be at Fashion Place Mall in Murray.
"It will feature a curated assortment of our popular American Girl dolls, books, and accessories, along with the signature Doll Hair Salon experience," American Girl spokeswoman Susan Jevens wrote in an email.
The American Girl brand launched in 1986, featuring historical dolls accompanied by books and sets of clothing with accessories. Since then, more than 27 million dolls have been sold, according to the company.
The Fashion Place store is slated to stay open until Jan. 31. Jevens said it's possible the temporary store could stay open past early 2016, but those plans have not yet been confirmed.
A grand-opening party is being held at the store Saturday and Sunday. There will be a free craft for children and a drawing to win a doll, in addition to a gift for visitors while supplies last.
Due to the large number of guests expected for the grand-opening weekend, the store will be admitting people in groups. Tickets will be handed out starting one hour before the store opens, at 9 a.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday.
