PARADISE PARK, Uintah County — Search and rescue crews were looking for a 10-year-old boy Sunday evening after he went missing while hiking with his family, according to the Uintah County Central Dispatch Center.
Malachi Bradley went missing about 10:30 a.m. Sunday near the Paradise Park Campground in the high Uintahs northwest of Vernal, according to a Facebook page set up as part of the rescue effort. His family, which is from the Wasatch Front, had been camping near Paul Lake.
A Department of Public Safety helicopter, as well as ATVs, were in the area Sunday evening searching for the boy. The Uintah and Wasatch County sheriffs offices, as well as the Ute Indian Tribe, assisted in the search.
The Facebook page invited others to help in the search, but the invitation was taken down at the request of sheriff's deputies, who said having to coordinate volunteers would divert resources from finding Malachi.
By 10 p.m., the search was wrapping up for the night, but there was the possibility that the DPS helicopter would continue the search using heat-sensing equipment, according to search and rescue crews.
Temperatures in the area were expected to be in the low 50s Sunday night, according to KSL meteorologist Dan Guthrie.
