SALT LAKE CITY — A Tour of Utah cyclist who was injured in a crash with a support vehicle has been discharged from a local hospital and suffered no head, neck or spine fractures during the incident, his medical team has announced.

Cyclist Matt Brammeier of Team MTN-Qhubeka sustained several musculoskeletal injuries in a crash with a support vehicle at Guardsman Pass in Big Cottonwood Canyon on Saturday. He was released Monday from the University of Utah Hospital with rib fractures on both sides of his chest as well as pneumothorax and fractures in the sacral and pelvic bones in the hip area.

MTN-Qhubeka team doctor Jarrad van Zuydam updated the rider's condition shortly after the accident, and it included an overall good condition shortly after the crash.

"Matt Brammeier was involved in a high-speed collision with a vehicle during the queen stage of the Tour of Utah," the doctor said in a statement. "Thankfully, Matt has suffered no head, neck or spinal injuries and is currently stable in the hospital. His musculoskeletal injuries are significant, however."

No surgery was expected following medical examinations, van Zuydam noted.

Van Zuydam gave an update on the day of Brammeier's release via Twitter, as well.

Happy to report that @Mattbrammeier85 has been discharged & will fly home soon. Many thanks to medical staff at University Utah Hospital! — Jarrad Van Zuydam (@jarradvz) August 10, 2015

Brammeier updated his condition on Tuesday via Twitter as he was getting ready to fly home.

Can say that won't go down as one of my most enjoyable trips, but so happy to be on the way home to the people that matter to me most. — Matt Brammeier (@Mattbrammeier85) August 11, 2015

Brammeier, a 30-year-old native of Liverpool, England, is a four-time Irish National Road Race champion who has been racing on the pro circuit since 2011. One of the newer members of the team, Brammeier was a set-up rider for MTN-Qhubeka in preparing the sprinters during the final stretch of each stage. ![](http://beacon.deseretconnect.com/beacon.gif?cid=308942&pid=4)
