HUNTSVILLE, Weber County — After being on the run for more than six years, a man suspected of killing his former girlfriend in Huntsville has been extradited back to Utah.

Gutberto Heras-Corrales, 39, is charged with murdering Noemi Rodriguez, a 26-year-old mother of three. Investigators believe she died Christmas Day, 2008. Her body was found under a pile of snow on Dec. 26 by a snowplow driver working at Cemetery Point in Huntsville.

Five days earlier, prosecutors believe Heras-Corrales burned down the mobile home of Rodriguez's mother in Davis County. No one was home at the time.

Heras-Corrales was kicked out of Rodriguez's home on Dec. 18, 2008. Just hours before the fire on Dec. 20, Heras-Corrales and his former live-in girlfriend got into a fight at an Ogden bar that resulted in him being kicked out of the bar, court documents state.

Rodriguez told friends that Heras-Corrales had threatened to burn down the mobile home and she was making plans to move to California out of fear for her safety, according to charging documents.

Police believe a man wanted in connection with a murder in Weber County has fled the country.

Heras-Corrales is believed to have fled the country shortly after the killing. On July 10, 2009, an arrest warrant was issued charging him with aggravated murder, a first-degree felony. Another warrant was issued for aggravated arson shortly after the mobile home fire.

The Weber County Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday that after working with the U.S. Marshals Service and the U.S. Department of Justice for several years, Heras-Corrales was extradited back to the U.S. from Mexico.

He was arrested by Mexican authorities in Culican, Sinaloa, in January of 2013 and detained for the next 18 months while Utah authorities attempted to get him returned to the state, said Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Lane Findlay.

Bail was set at $500,000 cash only. He is scheduled to be arraigned in court on Wednesday.
