WEST JORDAN — The court case of a man charged with assaulting an officer while hosting a party full of underage drinkers has been moved to West Jordan.

Cody Argyle, 28, of Taylorsville, was charged in April in 3rd District Court with assault on a police officer, a second-degree felony; interfering with an arresting officer, class B misdemeanor; and nine counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a class B misdemeanor.

On April, 4, Unified police responded to a report of a 14-year-old who had overdosed on alcohol, according to charging documents. They responded to an apartment being rented by Argyle and his wife. Both were "extremely intoxicated" when officers arrived, the charges state.

When officers entered the apartment, one of them followed Argyle into the kitchen, where the man picked up a knife and began cutting a piece of paper while staring at the officer and ignoring commands to put the knife down, according to the charges.

After initially ignoring several commands to put the knife down, Argyle eventually complied, the charges state.

Argyle then pushed an officer, "punched him in the mouth" and grabbed onto the officer's collar and bulletproof vest so that it choked him, according to the charges. The other officer put a chokehold on Argyle to get him off his partner, the charges state.

Argyle's wife had also entered the kitchen at this point and slapped the second officer in the face, telling him to leave her husband alone, according to the charges.

When Argyle let the first officer go and continued to struggle with the second, the first officer used his Taser three times on Argyle, according to the charges.

Argyle was then handcuffed and arrested. Police found nine juveniles in the apartment, six of whom were drunk, the charges state.

On Tuesday, the case was transferred from 3rd District Court in Salt Lake to West Jordan. A scheduling conference was scheduled for July 21.
