Rivals, friends rally on Twitter around Utah State athletes injured in car crash

TRENTON, Cache County — Four Utah State football players and a former softball player were injured in a car accident in Trenton on Friday evening.

But the support they received via Twitter, including from several rival coaches and players, was outstanding as they learned of critical injuries sustained by defensive linemen Travis Seefeldt, Adewale Adeoye, Edmund Faimalo and John Taylor, as well as recently graduated softball player Sarah Vasquez.

Utah kicker Andy Phillips was among the earliest to express condolences after news spread across the Wasatch Front.

Current Texas offensive lineman and Timpview graduate Xavier Su'a-Filo also tweeted his thoughts.

Several Aggie staff members also heard of the news. Incoming Utah State athletic director John Hartwell, whose tenure begins this month, added his own voice.

Sentiments also began pouring in from fans and staff members of rival schools, including Nevada head coach Brian Polian.

Utah State football coach Matt Wells expressed support for the student-athletes in a statement from the university's athletic department.

“We will do everything we can to help all the student-athletes involved in today’s car accident and will give them all the love and support they need,” Wells said. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved.”
