SALT LAKE CITY — Monday, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced funeral plans for the late Elder L. Tom Perry.
The funeral will take place at the Temple Square Tabernacle on Friday, June 5 at 11 a.m.
Elder Perry, 92, died Saturday, May 30 in his home alongside family after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer. He had served in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles since 1974 and was the oldest member of the quorum at the time of his death.
On Sunday, Elder Perry’s son Lee Perry spoke to the media about his father’s death, saying “It wasn't tragic, because my father was so blessed throughout his life. He had 92 years of wonderful health.”
Elder Perry was diagnosed April 23 and his son said his death came quicker than they expected. After the diagnosis, Elder Perry returned to his church office two days a week but by Tuesday, May 26, felt his mission on earth was complete.
