PROVO — Provo’s Rooftop Concert Series announced its first concert of the season Monday, as well as a location change, due to its popularity in the past six years.

The Rooftop Concert Series was started in 2010 by four Provo residents who wanted to “get more people to come downtown and enjoy what this beautiful city has to offer,” according to the Rooftop Concert Series website. The concert series got its name from being held on the “rooftop” of the Provo Town Square parking terrace, at 100 West and 100 North in Provo.

The first concert for 2015 will be held June 5 at 7:30 p.m. and will include locals Sego and Quiet House, with American-Fork native Joshua James as the headlining band.

The concert series “outgrew the roof” at the end of its fifth season when locally based Neon Trees performed in October 2014. The Neon Trees concert was held in the street at the intersection of 100 West, and Center Street and the concert series will now be held there.

The Rooftop Concert Series is also changing the number of concerts that will be held for the 2015 season. In previous years, six concerts were included in the series, but this year, there will be four concerts. However, the concerts will still be held the first Friday of each month.

The other concerts for the season will be held July 3, Aug. 7 and Sept. 4. The bands will be announced each month on the Rooftop Concert Series website.

The series doesn’t take submissions, but highlights up-and-coming bands in the local music scene. Sponsored by Google Fiber and Provo City, each concert is free to attend.

“These concerts bring together everything I love about Provo — great music, breathtaking views, friends and families all having a great time together,” founder Sarah Wiley wrote on the website.
