Golden age of radio alive and well in central Utah

Nowadays, we consume media on HDTVs, via live-stream, on a tablet,or on our laptop computers.

But there was a time when radio was the only option, and families would gather together to hear live performances of their favorite programs. Central Utah has a small-town theater that is trying to revive the golden age of radio.

A Saturday evening in Spring City will take you back in time, especially when you step into the century-old Victory Hall theater. This is a town that time has forgotten, a place where the old west meets the new.

Spanish Fork parents mark 20 years since teen disappeared

Saturday will mark the 20th anniversary of the disappearance of Kiplyn Davis, a Spanish Fork teenager who went to school and never returned home.

Over the years, Richard and Tamara Davis have never given up the hope of bringing their daughter home. And through a series of searches, investigations and court cases, they can't believe they still don't know where she is.

"If you would have told me 20 years ago that in 20 years we wouldn't have found Kiplyn, I would have never believed it," Tamara Davis said. "And here we are, still trying to find Kiplyn."

Police: Unidentified shooting victim found inside suitcase near Saltair

A body found in a suitcase along I-80 Thursday is not that of missing Provo woman Elizabeth Elena Laguna Salgado, police confirmed Friday.

But police are now investigating whether the body could be a woman who has been missing from Las Vegas since November.

The body was described as a middle-aged woman with long dark hair, Unified police said Friday. A tattoo of a pink breast cancer ribbon was found on the woman's left wrist, and she had apparently undergone a mastectomy of her right breast.

One man dead after foiled carjacking in Orem

A 27-year-old man was fatally wounded in the parking lot of an Orem grocery store Saturday morning when he was shot by a man attempting to stop him from carjacking a woman's SUV, Orem police said.

Capt. Ned Jackson of the Orem Police Department said the man who shot the would-be carjacker had a weapon and a concealed weapons permit. He had stopped at the store to purchase food en route to a planned target shooting outing.

The identity of the deceased, who earlier in the day was suspected of assaulting a woman, was not released. Police also did not release the name of the man who came to the assistance of the woman.

'Empty Bowls' event raises awareness, funds to feed Utah's hungry

Talk about food for thought.

Utahns broke bread, slurped soup and developed a greater appreciation of art and the issue of hunger in Utah during the Empty Bowls event Saturday afternoon at St. Vincent de Paul Dining Hall.

The event is a partnership between Clay Arts Utah and Catholic Community Services of Utah. After enjoying a simple meal, participants were invited to purchase ceramic bowls handcrafted by Utah artisans.

Proceeds benefitted CCS's dining hall, which serves lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday and Sunday dinner to help alleviate hunger in the Salt Lake area.
