PROVO — A Provo man pleaded guilty this week to threatening to kill police officers in the wake of a fatal officer-involved shooting in February.
Michael Leon Angus, 27, pleaded guilty Monday to making terroristic threats, a second-degree felony. In exchange for the plea, prosecutors will recommend that Angus be given probation rather than a prison sentence and that the charge be eligible for a two-step reduction if Angus successfully completes probation, according to court documents.
Angus is scheduled to be sentenced May 4.
On Feb. 15, Cody Evans, 24, of Springville, was shot and killed by a Provo police officer and a Utah County sheriff's deputy after he reportedly pointed what they believed was an assault rifle at them. The weapon was later determined to be a pellet gun that had the orange tip removed, police said.
Later that day, Angus took to social media to proclaim to Provo police: "Yall gonna hate it soon," "They'll pay for this," and "To provo pd, Beware of c4 and dat 50cal … Im fed up yall killin my homies, im killing u!...Ima kill all u provo cops," according to a police affidavit filed in 4th District Court.
Angus also asked if anyone was interested in helping him.
After being notified of the threats, police located Angus at work on Feb. 21 and arrested him. Charged that week, Angus remains in custody in the Utah County Jail.
